Real Show
Problem Solving. It's an essential skill for the successful graphic designer, photographer, or illustrator. Each of us create our own path as we answer self-imposed questions in search of the best solution. But for every visual problem, there are endless possible solutions and no single correct answer.
In March 1975, the Art Directors Club held their first Real Show. The idea was simple: give three "real-world" design problems to local art students for them to solve in their own way. Three professional designers would then judge the result. It turned out to be great fun. This annual competition now draws scores of entries from colleges in Virginia, DC and Marylandall the way to West Virginia, Delaware and Pennsylvania. The work these young artists enter is original, novel and consistently outstanding. They take the challenge of real competition, real deadlines, and real projects. Winners may also qualify for a Brian Brown Scholarship.
An exhibition displaying the best of the entries begins with an awards ceremony honoring the Gold, Silver and Award of Excellence winners.
