Lightning in a Bottle
The ADCMW 59 th Annual Show and Gala, held at the National Press Club in Washington, DC highlighted over 100 local designers, art directors and firms that managed to “Catch Lightning in a Bottle” this year. In addition, the ADCMW recognized several individuals and design firms with medals for their outstanding work. ADCMW 2008 Design Partnership Award
ADCMW presented Josh Cancel of The BOSS Group with this year's Design Partnership Award. This award is presented each year to a business partner who has displayed excellence in service reflecting the highest standards in graphic arts. The BOSS Group has been a strong supporter of the ADCMW for many years. Their sponsorship and support of many club activities has enabled the ADCMW to continue its mission of advocating professionalism in the field of visual arts.
Since 1987 The BOSS Group has assisted creative and marketing professionals with finding jobs, assignments and industry connections while helping business clients to find the talent they need to succeed.
Headquarted in Bethesda, MD, The Boss Group is a certified Women's Business Enterprise. They were recognized in 2007 by the Washington Business Journal as One of the Best Places to Work and One of the Fasting Growing Companies in the Washington DC Metropolitan area.

ADCMW 2008 Design Leadership Award
The Art Directors Club of Metropolitan Washington honored the Smithsonian Arthur M. Sackler and Freer Gallery of Art with the Design Leadership Award for their long-standing commitment to excellence in design. Each year, the ADCMW awards a regional organization that reflects the highest standards in visual communication. The design department at the Sackler and Freer Gallery of Art has been a perennial award winner for their exhibition and catalog materials.
The Sackler and Freer Gallery of Art is a museum of Asian art with objects dating from Neolithic times to the early 20th century. The gallery was given to the United States by Charles Lang Freer, an American railroad-car manufacturer, who donated his personal collection and the funds to house them. When the Italian-Renaissance-style gallery opened to the public in 1923, the Freer was the first Smithsonian museum for fine arts.

ADCMW 2008 Lifetime Member Award
Fellow Lifetime Member Lucinda Crabtree presented Burkey Belser with the Lifetime Member Award. This award is given annually to an individual for their contributions to both the ADCMW and the design community at large.
Burkey Belser, principal of Greenfield Belser Ltd. in Washington DC, has served as a board member and past president of the ADCMW, developing and promoting a myriad programs for the Washington design community as well as promoting the virtues of design to the greater metropolitan community.
His firm's work has won hundreds of awards in every major category of graphic design from every national and international awards contests and he is also one of a handful of designers to have received the Presidential Design Award, in his case from Bill Clinton for the design of the Nutrition Facts label, noted by The New York Times as the most frequently produced graphic in the world.
